In addition to learning in the classroom, you’ll receive hands-on learning by providing hair care services to the public. From haircuts and hair coloring to perms, manicures, and pedicures, you’ll have the chance to test your skills while under the supervision of an instructor.

You must complete 1500 hours and pass state boards to become licensed as a Cosmetologist in Missouri. Here are the areas of study mandated by the State Board of Cosmetology that must be successfully completed:

  • Shampooing of all kinds
  • Hair coloring, bleaches and rinses
  • Hair cutting and shaping
  • Permanent waving and relaxing
  • Hairsetting, pin curls, fingerwaves, thermal curling
  • Combouts and hair styling techniques
  • Scalp treatments and scalp diseases
  • Facials, eyebrows and arches
  • Manicuring, hand and arm massage and treatment of nails
  • Cosmetic chemistry
  • Salesmanship and shop management
  • Sanitation and sterilization
  • Anatomy
  • State law

The Academy adds other content and frequently provides guest speakers to aid students to be prepared to succeed in the cosmetology industry.
